On Nov. 12, 2017, I was at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign for an event where Clark County commissioners publicly recognized Greg Zanis for the crosses he created in memory of the 58. Many people during the preceding weeks had left mountains of mementos. I took numerous photos that day. This photo of a young boy and girl – a brother and sister perhaps – locked arm-in-arm, as if supporting each other, and looking down at the mementos, was my favorite.
